In the period from 11 to 15 March 2019 a Diagnostic mission of the World Customs Organization to combat corruption took place in the building of the State Revenue Committee of the Ministry of Finance of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

WCO has developed a robust anti-corruption programme aimed at providing technical support to customs administrations to develop effective anti-corruption strategies. The programme includes the development of tools for adoption of international standards aimed at ensuring integrity and combating corruption. Strategic advisory support, institutional development and technical assistance are also an integral part of the programme.

Over the past three years, the Secretariat has organized some 45 technical assistance missions to WCO member states. In 2017/2018 financial year, about 15 customs administrations received support from the WCO in combating corruption.

The main mission objective is to assess the extent to which the 10 elements of the revised WCO Arusha Declaration have been implemented and to support the customs service of Kazakhstan in increasing its capacity on anti-corruption issues.

WCO has sent 2 experts for the event: Mr. Per Arvid Nordli - Director of the International Relations Department of the Norwegian Customs Administration and Mr. Alvaro Fernández - Expert of the Customs Administration of Spain.
